Council Tool FSS Boys Axe is Back!

Hey folks, No affiliation other than being a customer but Omaha Knife did a special order of the Council Tool FSS boys axes. They also upgraded the handle quality and are using the Velvicutt boy's axe handles. This should be a superb axe!. I have one of the original FSS axes and love it. It is my favorite axe hands down. Feel and performance is just amazing. With the better handles on them now I can't imagine getting something else, in any price range. Just wanted to pass a long.

Here's a few pics of mine from the previous run.  You'll note the horrid grain orientation on mine.  It's still going strong though.  I am doing an experiment of sorts on how long it will last.  This is the issue they corrected by using the upgraded handles.  So you should be confident that the handle will be a good one.

I removed the paint from the head and sanded the handle down.  New model won't have lacquer.

Chop on Axe folk!

  1. Looks like you beat me to the punch on this one Brandon. Got one of these on the way and should have a quick review of it posted next week. Great axe for the money.

    Cheers,

    1. Sounds good. Looking forward to your thoughts on it. Also I'm kind of surprised Council did the run of them. I kind of thought Council stopped making the FSS line because they came out with the Velvicutt Boys axe and wanted to push sales to that model. I can't imagine the Velvicutt model being worth twice the cost of this one. But I haven't used one either....

  3. How well does that axe hold an edge compared to a GB or Hults Bruks.

    1. The GB or HB is tempered harder, like around 57RC give or take. the Council is probably more around 54-55 range. It holds a good edge though and I have not noticed I had to resharpen more than other axes. The council is made for hard woods that we have here in the U.S. like oak. The Swedish axes are make for softer woods like pines. Both are good but the council is less likely to chip on a hardwood or frozen piece of wood.
